Emily Grace Herman
photographer in Northwest Florida
about
Hey, I’m Emily. Born and raised under the Florida sun in Fort Lauderdale, I’ve been chasing light, shadows, and human connection through my lens for the past 4 years.
Weddings are my favorite story to tell—messy, magical, full of tiny in-between moments most people miss. I’m not about stiff poses or cookie-cutter shots. Instead, I like to see things a little differently, documenting events in a way that feels raw, real, and a bit unexpected.
Though I can shoot digital, my soul belongs to analog black-and-white film. There’s something about the alchemy of film—the grain, the chemistry, the timelessness—that keeps me hooked.
If you’re into artistic vibes, a touch of experimentation, and photos that feel like you (not just a version of you), then we’re probably a good match. Let’s make some magic together.

I will work closely with you to ensure that every aspect of the shoot is carefully planned out and executed.
-
On the day of the shoot, I will bring my expertise and creativity to bring your vision to life. Film photography is a little different from digital. Each roll of film only holds a limited number of images, so every frame is chosen with care. Instead of snapping hundreds of photos, I slow down and create more intentionally—making sure the light, composition, and moment feel just right before pressing the shutter.
That means you’ll receive fewer overall images, but the ones you do get will be thoughtfully crafted, timeless, and truly one of a kind. Film is about quality, not quantity—and part of its magic is how each photograph feels like a piece of art.
-
With digital, every photo is made with the same sensor size in your camera. Film, however, comes in different formats—almost like choosing different canvases for a painting. Each one has its own shape, mood, and level of detail.
35mm – Closest to the look of digital photography, but with that unmistakable film character: subtle grain, softer tones, and a nostalgic charm that digital can’t replicate.
645 – Similar in feel to a digital full-frame sensor, but with more depth and richness in the tones. It’s both modern and timeless.
6x6 – A square format that doesn’t really exist in digital without cropping. It feels iconic and artistic—perfect for creating portraits that look like fine art prints.
6x7 – Much larger than most digital sensors, which means incredible detail, depth, and a cinematic quality that feels truly luxurious. Once you have a portrait taken on this format you won’t want to settle for anything less.
Where digital gives you consistency and quantity, film offers variety, artistry, and intention. Each format brings a unique mood to your portraits, letting the medium itself become part of the story.

Grain is one of the most beautiful signatures of film. It’s the texture you see in the photograph—the tiny, organic patterns that give an image warmth, depth, and character. Different film stocks are like different kinds of paint: each one has its own personality.
Fine-grained film creates soft, smooth images with incredible detail. Think of it like a delicate watercolor—gentle, luminous, and perfect for timeless, elegant portraits.
Grainier film has a bolder, moodier feel. The texture is more visible, giving the image a sense of nostalgia and soul—like a favorite old record that crackles in all the right places.
Some films lean toward bright, airy colors, while others create rich contrast or dreamy tones. Choosing the film stock is part of the artistry: it’s how I shape the mood of your session. Whether we’re going for luminous and classic, or textured and cinematic, the grain becomes part of the story—an echo of the medium itself.

The turnaround time for receiving your final photos from a photoshoot with me may vary depending on the scope of the project. However, rest assured that I value efficiency and will work diligently to deliver your edited photos promptly, typically within a few weeks of the shoot.
